The Tattooist Movie Review

Feeling a bit adventurous last weekend, my boo and I watched The Tattooist. It is relatively not a well known movie as it is not a mainstream release. The Tattooist is a 2007 New Zealand supernatural thriller directed by Peter Burger and starring American actor Jason Behr. Shot in New Zealand and Singapore, The Tattooist is the first official co-production between the two countries.

The Tattooist centers around Jake Sawyer(Jason Behr), a tattooist by profession who accidentally released an evil spirit by cutting himself on an old tattoo hammer. There is also some onscreen love chemistry between Jake Sawyer and Sina(Mia Blake), the niece of a church pastor who is also a traditional tattooist. Unlike conventional big budget mainstream horror thriller movies, The Tattooist brings a certain 'rawness' in its story telling process while still remaining interesting to watch. Even though it has a slow start, The Tattooist has a certain degree of originality with the mixture of different cultures portrayed in various scenes.

The Tattooist Movie Trailer

If you are looking for something new and different from the other current mainstream movie releases to watch, give The Tattooist a try. IMHO, The Tattooist is a better rental than a purchase. My Love For Life movie review rating for The Tattooist: 2.5/5

Tropic Thunder Movie Review

I watched Tropic Thunder with my cousin during the weekend after I picked him up after work. He didn't want to go straight home instead wanted to go my place to watch Lost. Soon after watching 2 episodes of Lost back to back, we commenced on watching Tropic Thunder.

Initially I thought Tropic Thunder was a war movie focusing on the Vietnam guerrilla warfare. But upon looking at the initial "movie trailers and advertisement" preluding Tropic Thunder, I thought it was more of a spoof movie. Tropic Thunder is an action comedy movie directed, produced, starring and written by Ben Stiller. Tropic Thunder has an impressive star studded cast which includes Jack Black, Robert Downey, Jr. and Brandon T. Jackson.

Tropic Thunder centers around a group of actors who got thrown into the real jungle to make a Vietnam War movie so they can be more convincing onscreen instead of filming on set. Tropic Thunder is an absolutely delightful movie to watch because it is so "messy". It is not right to classify it as a "spoof" as it contains much more distinctive elements of its own.

Tropic Thunder Movie Trailer

I recommend Tropic Thunder as a unique movie watching experience with strong emphasis on action comedy. If you are just curious about the movie, go and watch it on DVD. Most probably you will not be disappointed.

My Love For Life movie review rating for Tropic Thunder: 4/5.

Ghost Town Movie Review

Let me start off this Ghost Town movie review by saying one word: Wonderful! I watched Ghost Town with my boo without expecting much from the movie. We both thought that Ghost Town is one of those 'watch and forget' movies. We were pleasantly surprised by how well Ghost Town turned out to be.

In a nutshell, Ghost Town centers on Bertram Pincus(Ricky Gervais), an antisocial and egoistic dentist who one day through a mishap, gained the ability to see ghosts. Ghost Town is a comedy so there are absolutely no scary moments in the movie. Instead, Ghost Town focuses on human drama and emotions throughout its course of story telling. Joining the cast members of Ghost Town are noteworthy actors such as Greg Kinnear as Frank Herlihy, the main protagonist ghost and Téa Leoni as Gwen, Frank's widow who is an Egyptologist by profession.

Do yourself a favor by picking up the Ghost Town DVD which was released on 27 December 2008 and watch it with your loved ones. It will definitely provide you with a cozy and pleasant evening at home. My Love For Life movie review rating for Ghost Town: 4/5

Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans Movie Review

Having watched the previous two Underworld movies I was eagerly anticipating for the next release in the series. The latest and third release, Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans is a prequel to the first movie. Those who were hoping to see the lovely Kate Beckinsale back as the main female protagonist Selene will be disappointed with the very minor appearance that she has at the very end of the movie.

Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans tells the story of the origins of the age old Vampire-Lycan war, focusing on how Lucian(Michael Sheen) came to be the leader of the Lycans. Not to spoil the story too much for you guys, lets just say that the forbidden love relationship between Lucian and Sonja(Rhona Mitra), daughter of the ruthless elder vampire Viktor(Bill Nighy), plays a major role in the plot of the movie.

Underworld: Rise Of The Lyans movie trailer

Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans is action packed and can be gory at times. The wild Lycans and the human-Lycan transformation scenes are nicely done in CGI. If you are a fan of Underworld, you can not go wrong with Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans. If you have never seen the prior movies in the Underworld series, do take look at Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans as it is a good fantasy action movie. Who knows maybe you will end up watching all the Underworld movies after watching this one ;)

My Love For Life movie review rating for Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans: 3.5/5

The Unborn Movie Review

I didn't post any new reviews last week because of work and also been catching up with my love for anime. Well I did manage to watch The Unborn with my boo during the weekend so here is my take on the movie.

The Unborn is essentially a horror movie with supernatural elements added to the plot. The Unborn started off as an average American horror fest with the typical creepy possessed child fanfare. After a few obligatory scare scenes The Unborn kinda gets pretty bland and boring as the scare factor goes down the drain. It is pretty obvious that the producers (Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes) bank in heavily on the sex appeal of Odette Yustman as the leading lady Casey Beldon. Throughout the numerious bathroom scenes Odette can be seen in skimpy tight fitting underwear (as shown on The Unborn movie poster) which I think is a major contributing factor for the male demographic to watch The Unborn.

The Unborn Movie Trailer

In the end it essentially boils down to how good The Unborn is as a movie. I have to say that The Unborn is not really good. The plot is too generic and when you have seen one scare scene, you have seen them all. My Love For Life movie review rating for The Unborn: 1.5/5
